Loyalist Township will be participating in the completion of land and agricultural studies at the county level. The Township of Stone Mills, and the Town of Greater Napanee were also asked by the county to participate.
County council said that the study will have a direct impact on local planning and development. The review will ultimately provide a map of prime agricultural lands to be updated on the county official plan schedule.
On Feb. 28, the Township of Stone Mills requested the county undertake a comprehensive review of its prime agricultural land use designation through the completion of a land evaluation area review (LEAR), and an agricultural land evaluation system (ALES) study. County planning staff have had discussions with The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH,) and have now requested concurrence from the three townships.
