Kysen Regional Hospital, Terrace’s new hospital, opened on November 24th with new, easier-to-navigate departments for oncology, radiation, and other services.
However, the north is suffering the same healthcare worker shortage much like the rest of the province. So the question is — will the new hospital services be available if the hospital can’t find the staff?
Jonathan Cooper, a Northern Health Administrator told CICK News “Staffing is really important for the clinical areas, particularly, but also others. It will be a phased approach. We are getting interest from from staff from new applicants, which is really positive as well.”
Newly-elected Conservative MLA for the Skeena Region Claire Rattée told CICK News “There’s still a lot of advocacy that needs to be done. The ER has already been closed more than 800 hours this year with the issues that we have with the highway between Kitimat and Terrace. That’s just unacceptable.”
