Over $1 million in funding has been approved by the BC government for Kootenay communities.
The funding comes from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) and aims to help communities to strengthen and diversify their local economies.
Communities receiving funding include: City of Nelson, Village of Slocan and the Village of Nakusp. The environmental group Wildsight has also been approved for funding.
In Nelson, $80,000 will go to Kootenay Regional Film Studios to advance the regional film sector.
Slocan received the largest sum at $866,722. This money will be used on a downtown revitalization project.
The $33,150 going to Nakusp will address a lack of workforce housing in the village.
Wildsight is using $100,000 on their Fire to Food Program. This program aims to divert forestry waste and wildfire fuel into soil inputs for agriculture.
