Kingstonians observed the the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia today, marking 7 years since the attack.
On this day in 2017, six men were murdered and 19 others were injured at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City when a gunman entered the place of worship and opened fire. In 2021, the Government of Canada declared Jan. 29 the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia.
From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. this evening, the Islamic Society of Kingston will be hosting Prayers for Peace & Remembrance for Victims of the Québec City Mosque Attack Members at the Islamic Centre of Kingston (1477 Sydenham Road).
This evening, City Hall will be illuminated with green light to commemorate the seventh anniversary and remember the victims of this event and other violent acts of Islamophobia.
