Loyalist Township council has proclaimed June 2024 to be Recreation and Parks Month. A kick-off event has been planned for Saturday June 1, to celebrate and bring awareness to the June as Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) movement.
The SEOPRA (Southeastern Ontario Parks and Recreation Association) has arranged the movement, as well as a competition between mayors and councils. Local leaders are being asked to share their adventures on social media during June with the goal of inspiring others to explore local parks. The association hopes this will help highlight the importance of preserving and enhancing community resources.
SEOPRA describes the JRPM movement as ones that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social, and environmental health. Communities all across Ontario are taking part as a way to promote their own local programs and events, as well as their parks and facilities that are available for community members.
