A local association is engaging the community on rural transportation on Cortes Island this summer.
The Cortes Community Economic Development Association (CCEDA) has been working on their “Cortes/Quadra Community Passenger Transportation Solutions” project and consulting the Cortes community on what passenger transport solutions they would want and use.
Kate Maddigan, economic development officer for CCEDA, says Cortes residents seem to think a bus route is “the best solution to meet passenger transportation needs.”
CCEDA finished Phase One of their community consultation with their recent community meeting June 6. Phase Two will include public events on Cortes and Quadra in late August.
“The more we can get people to share rides and use fewer vehicles, it’s just better for everybody. Also contributes to relieving the pressure on the ferries, that’s a huge thing for us,” said Maddigan.
