NL Housing Minister Paul Pike says since October, the budget for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Commission renovations has been boosted, with an extra $3 million dollars for 143 vacant units. This includes 12 units throughout the western region; a total of 81 units are ready to move in. There are 32 units in the Crestview area of Corner Brook that have been boarded up.
Pike says nothing has been done there since federal funding was not approved last year. Meanwhile, he says seven projects have been approved for the region, including Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Irishtown-Summerside, and Port Saunders. Pike says these projects should get final approval within the next month or two and be shovel ready to start this spring.
