Theatre Roulant, the only horse drawn theatre caravan in Canada, will be spending the summer at the Waring House, a restaurant/conference centre in Prince Edward County. Founder and director, Conrad Beaubien, collaborated with the Waring House to give Theatre Roulant a summer home for outdoor performances and expanding it into a dinner theatre venue.
Prior to COVID, Beaubien’s theatre group performed in community venues, but red tape and scheduling forced him to rethink logistics. An old hay wagon was purchased and given a second life with refurbishing and harness equipment enabling it to be pulled by two beautiful draft horses Susie and Sarah.
Due to COVID, performing outdoors was necessary so the wagon rolled around the County with actors and musicians giving performances to small audiences anywhere. But now, the company has decided to stay in one place for the summer.
CJPE talks with Beaubien about the company and why they’re trying out this new change.
