Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) gave an update on the closure of the Gane Yohs Health Centre and concerns from a recent visit from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) members.
SNEC announced Gane Yohs Health Centre would be closed temporarily on April 23 due to health and safety concerns stemming from mold in the building.
SNEC CEO Nathan Wright spoke on a recent visit from senior ISC staff members and says they attempted to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
In an emailed response, ISC says when the building was closed they instructed the 14 ISC employees from Gane Yohs Health Centre to work remotely and say they will be in contact with SNEC in the coming weeks to determine “medium and long-term solutions” for the community’s health services needs.
A number of services that were previously available at the Gane Yohs Health Centre have been impacted. For more information on impacted services visit the SNEC website.
