With the dawn of a new year comes a similarly intent focus on the issue of homelessness for staff in Guelph and Wellington County. Town of Minto council will see two reports before them Tuesday at a 3 p.m. meeting.
These reports, per David Anderson, County councillor and Vice Chair of the Social Services Committee, will look to get the municipality ”up to speed” on the rising numbers of the local homeless population.
Anderson told CICW while he is aware of the issue’s scope in the City of Guelph, he and staff recognize it persists in smaller Wellington County communities as well.
He specified these services might include a look at having on-hand workers to deal with instances of mental health and addictions related crises. This is something Anderson says the County will be hoping to build on.
CICW has more from Anderson as he and staff brace for another year of tackling this growing problem.
