It’s no news to Wellington County residents that there has been a lack of snow and extra rainfall so far this winter.
In Fergus, the Weather Network projects the first substantial snowfall to be on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Following a relatively snow-less December, there is just around one centimetre projected from now until that point.
The effect? Extra stress on the watershed, according to the Grand River Conservation Authority’s (GRCA) Manager of Flood Operations Vahid Taleban.
Taleban told The Grand at 101 that this unpredictable weather, and days of heavy precipitation are expected to continue in decades to come.
He added that the GRCA is armed and ready with multi-purpose reservoirs to handle high or low-water conditions.
CICW spoke with Taleban on weather patterns locally, their effect on the watershed, and what’s projected down the line.
