Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) have released a statement advising the public that local waterways within the Grand River watershed are experiencing increased river flows due to the heavy amount of mixed snow and rain in the area.
GRCA is encouraging people to be cautious with children and pets around local waterways while the statement is in effect until Jan. 12 at noon.
GRCA Manager of Strategic Communications and Environmental Education, Lisa Stocco says currently flows in the lower Grand River range over 150 cubic meters per second.
She says people need to understand the water within the river is cold, banks adjacent around rivers and streams can be slippery in this time of the year and that water can always pose a serious danger to people’s safety.
The current status of the Grand River can be found on the GRCA website.
