Wellington residents kicked off the first long weekend of summer and the upcoming Accessibility Week by having the grand opening of the accessible Wellington beach.
For the first time, people in wheelchairs, families with strollers and all others with mobility issues will be able to access the beach and water edge with ease using the special Mobi Mats that are manufactured from recycled ocean plastic. Two Mobi floatable wheelchairs are available to wheel up and down the beach or float around in the water.
The Rotary Club of Wellington came up with the idea of an accessible beach. With the help of regional partners it raised the money to make it happen but were able to double the support for equipment thanks to a donation by Corona Canada.
