A Grand Forks based nonprofit, the Boundary Forest Watershed Stewardship Society (BFWSS) is working to push for a new Forest Act in British Columbia.
BFWSS was founded in 2019 as a response to the flood in 2018. In 2021, they published a report outlining the problems caused by clear cut logging in the area. The report was presented to local and provincial governments. They did not receive a response.
Earlier this year, the BFWSS launched a new campaign with goals of making legislative change. They are currently in a fundraising stage, while working to connect with other grassroots groups across the province. Currently, they have connections withe the Interior Watershed Task Force (IWTF) and the Beaufort Watershed Stewards that plan to host an event in the future.
Jennifer Houghton, a board member with BFWSS, joined CJLY to discuss their new campaign.
