The 64th Annual All Native Basketball Tournament, the biggest sporting event of the year in Northwest BC, kicked off in an amazing show of dance and wonder on February 10 as the Gitxsan Nation opened the tournament with a thunderous entrance. The tournament ends on February 18.
Although the main feature of the week long tournament in basketball, players and attendees say it’s about much more than just basketball.
“It’s about culture, and it’s about family, ” said Roland Wright from Hazleton. “This is the one time a year we get to see a lot of our basketball family we don’t often see throughout the year. It’s a basketball culture, a basketball family.”
