British Columbia’s north offers nearly limitless fun to be had during the winter months. From sledding, skiing, snow shoeing, backcountry exploring to skating, this part of the world is a playground when covered in a blanket of snow. But after a post-Christmas cold snap, temperatures have warmed again, making the ground less predictable, and so adventurers need to be “ice aware”.
Sandra Riches works with Houston Search and Rescue and BC Adventure Smart to train and educate people about safety in your environment. Riches told CICK News that in order to limit potential dangers when exploring the outdoors, you should implement the “Three T’s: Trip planning, training, and taking essentials. No one ever expects to get in trouble when they head outdoors, but maybe a turn on the weather or mistaken judgment, unexpected injury or equipment failure can quickly change anything into a crisis.”
