Nestled in the heart of New Caledonia, Prince George’s community-campus radio station CFUR 88.7FM, bids adieu to longstanding host Andrew McFayden’s program, Celtic Fire.
The sole Gaelic program in Northern BC is focused on contemporary spoken word and musical expression of the declining Gaelic language. A mainstay of the station’s programming, this slice of Gaelic culture represents a world underneath the surface of the region’s colonial past, and western Europe’s pre-Roman past.
McFayden says of his impact, “If I could encourage just one person, or ten people, to either dabble in [Gaelic], or learn it, or you know just become interested in it in some way then I will have thought of myself as a success in that way.”
January first 2024 marks not only the final episode but 18 years on the air.
