Amid recent local charges involving unstamped tobacco, a former OPP officer says that the province has connections to Ontario and other regions involving this crime.
Rick Barnum, a recently retired Deputy Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Investigations and Organized Crime command, says a lot of contraband tobacco leaves from Ontario destined for other parts of the country including NL. During his 32-year career, Barnum lead numerous major investigations related to organized crime groups based in Ontario.
Meanwhile, a Grand Falls-Windsor man is facing charges after RCMP searched a home in the town last week. Andrew Noseworthy, 63, has been charged with possession of contraband cannabis and unstamped tobacco. Police found more than 60,000 individual cigarettes, approximately 2.25 pounds of suspected Hashish, and nearly $17,000.
