Former Cobourg Collegiate Institute track star Kate Current will compete in women’s 1,500 metres at the Summer Olympics in Paris.
Current placed second at the recent Canadian Track and Field Championships and Olympic Trials in Montreal, but wasn’t initially chosen for the Olympic team. Canada first named Lucia Stafford who won the 1,500 metres at the Trials and Simone Plourde who placed third.
The women’s 1,500 metre competition gets underway on Aug. 6.
Current isn’t currently available for comment, but CFWN spoke with her former high school coach at CCI Dawn Watson, who will head to Paris to watch Current compete in the Olympic Games.
