Forced evictions are on the rise in Quebec, according to a new report from the Regroupement des comités logement et associations de locataires du Québec (RCLALQ).
The RCLALQ’s Cédric Dussault told reporters on Tuesday that 2023 saw a record 3,531 forced evictions. That’s more than double the 2022 number of 1,525.
Their data includes legal practices like repossessions, which the RCLALQ say are often used fraudulently to hike up the rents, as well as openly illegal practices like renovictions and placing undue pressure on tenants.
