On October 22nd, Jordan Anderson would have been 25 years old, instead, his family gathers in ceremony to remember the legacy that he left behind.
Ernest Anderson, Jordan’s father, and his family traveled from Norway House Cree Nation, where the Anishinaabe Movement invited them to a flash mob round dance at Polo Park Shopping Centre.
Back in 2007, the House of Commons passed Jordan’s Principle to ensure that no Indigenous child dies while waiting for any form of care. Jordan died while waiting for health care in 2005, he was 5 years old.
“He truly is a hero and how many children that these programs are going to be helping. So many children that are in such need for help, and this is the legacy for him and his family.”, Sharon Ward Assiniboine, a member of the Anishinaabe Movement says.
Anderson and Assiniboine want people to remember Jordan’s life and legacy of saving Indigenous children with the child-first principle “Jordan’s Principle”.
