The H.O.P.E Centre on King Street in Picton has opened an overnight warming centre, a first for Prince Edward County.
Realizing the need, Pastor David Inch and his wife Laurie have been dreaming about this for more than five years and finally the doors are open every night from 8pm until 7am to anyone 18 and older in need of a warm place to stay.
Although it is not a shelter, the welcoming atmosphere can provide individuals with a shower, food and clothing. Asked about the extent of homelessness in the County, Inch said there is a lot of “couch surfing” which goes unnoticed but is there.
