FERGUS – Demolition of the old Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus is entering its final phase.
Next week, crews will begin dismantling the structure, starting with the exterior walls.
Wellington Health Care Alliance CFO James McDevitt says seeing the building come down will be bittersweet, noting that many people who work at the new hospital site were born at the Groves Hospital.
Once the property is ready for development it will be put up for sale, pending the approval of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Plans for commemorative activities are in the works for after the demolition to mark the building site. Details will be shared with the community once those plans are confirmed.
