At this week’s meeting, Loyalist Township council approved the construction of a new telecommunication tower that will bring fibre services to Amherst Island. The tower will be located at 925 Stella Forty-Foot Road.
The proposal was made by Xplore Inc. under the Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) process. This process requires a statement of concurrence from the municipality, which is now complete. Beyond this, the township and the company must seek approval from the Public Works division to go across roads. Public consultation was not required due to the distance of the proposed tower from other properties.
Staff’s report noted that the tower will be appropriately located to avoid the existing septic bed and helicopter pad, while allowing ample space for any other potential future uses. Staff are satisfied that the ISED process was accurately followed.
