On a rare visit to BCs north, Federal Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson announced $13.5 million in CERRC Federal funding initiatives during Prince George’s BC Natural Resources Forum on January 18th.
From robotizing mass timber production in Castlegar, to aiding tidal energy projects on both Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island, these grants primarily focus on an ongoing energy transition and forestry projects in BC.
Wilkinson’s address stressed the growing need for the Canadian economy to adapt to global changes, concluding, “We can choose to lead by recognizing where the world is heading and aggressively pursuing major areas of economic opportunity. Or we can bury our heads in the sand, and pretend the world is not moving rapidly towards a cleaner energy future, eroding our competitiveness and future prosperity.”
