The federal budget was announced on April 16, and some Inuit, First Nation and Métis communities have expressed disappointment in how little was promised to help Indigenous communities with financial aid.
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) met the day after the budget was revealed and Cindy Woodhouse, chief of the AFN, said that the government needs to be fixing these “long-standing issues” and “facilitating reconciliation.”
Shortly after, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced the “Loan Guarantee Program,” a program dedicated to helping improve the economy for Indigenous people.
