How fast can you solve a Rubik’s Cube?
This weekend around 150 people from across British Columbia will be coming together and competing in B.C.’s first-ever provincial speedcubing championship.
Speedcubing is a competitive sport of speed-solving mechanical combination puzzles. The puzzles are operated by twisting groups of pieces and can range in shape and size.
Before the competition kicked off CHLY spoke to event organizers and a delegate for the World Cube Association (WCA), Vianne Chang. Chang makes sure all the rules are being followed and everything adheres to the WCA standards to make this competition official.
Chang explained how a speedcubing competition works and how the competition is more than just competing; it is meeting people from across the province in the speedcubing scene.
CHLY also spoke with youth speedcubers Jacob Kotai and Jose Valdes Rodriguez heading about competing in the championship.
The 2024 BC Speedcubing Championship will run throughout the weekend, leading up to finals on Sunday.
