Continuing to help local farmers stay on the cutting edge of agricultural innovation — that is what a county grant program aims to do.
The intent of the program is to help local farmers mitigate the risk of applying new regenerative agriculture practices such as using cover crops to prevent soil erosion or building new green houses using new “green” technologies.
Experimental Acres lets farmers apply for grant funding of up to $3,000 to help with projects that could benefit their operations.
Agricultural Coordinator with the County, Jordan Grigg, says they are always looking for a wide variety of projects. She says they usually fall into three categories including crop and planting, animal and grazing, or innovation.
Applications are being accepted until January 19, 2025.
