Six Nations Farmers Association (SNFA) has been approved for $60,000 in funding from Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) for the association’s White Corn Project.
The White Corn Project sees 22 acres of corn produced for food consumption and traditional purposes within the Six Nations community. The project also sees SNFA work with local schools to teach students in agriculture.
Community members are able to pick and use the white corn at no cost.
During the March 18 general finance meeting, SNFA were originally asking for $50,000 in funding.
Coun. Greg Frazer suggested that the funding should be increased to $60,000 and discussed ways the project could expand, including connecting SNFA with the Iroquois Caucus.
SNEC approved the funding March 18.
