Dose Coffee hosted the AeroPress Championship Regional Qualifier at their roastery in the Big Eddy on July 19.
Started by Tim Wendelboe and Tim Varney in 2008, the World AeroPress Championship is a fan-organized competition where participants face off to see who can brew the best cup of coffee using the AeroPress coffee maker.
While the competition emphasizes fun, there are rules such as presenting the coffee to the competition’s judges for a blind taste testing. Competitors in each round brew coffee simultaneously in a time limit and only use ground coffee and water, with a maximum of 18 grams of coffee. Judges make their decision based on what tastes best.
Eri Horie, who won the event, will now go on to compete in the national qualifier at Eight Ounce Coffee in Calgary.
Winners from the national qualifiers get a ticket to go head to head at the world championship in September in Lisbon, Portugal.
