Project SEARCH, the “school-to-work training program,” is coming to local high schools in September.
The program for final-year high school students living with intellectual disabilities will be offered to those enrolled in post-secondary schools within both the Upper Grand and Wellington Catholic District School Boards. Project SEARCH will be hosted at the University of Guelph next fall.
For Jeff Mawhinney, Special Education Coordinator at Wellington Catholic District School Board, “employment is the gold standard of inclusion.”
That’s what the program is all about, says Mawhinney: equipping students with the tools and hands on reps they need to succeed in the workforce.
CICW sat down with both Mawhinney and Peggy Blair, superintendent at UGDSB, to hear more about the program coming local in the fall.
