For many students in Montreal, Jan. 9 marked a return to school after seven weeks out of class, the result of strikes from the Common Front and the Fédération Autonome de l’Enseignement (FAE).
It also marked the launch of the government’s plan to help students catch up on what they’ve missed. Education Minister Bernard Drainville announced a $300 million investment, which will chiefly fund after-hours tutoring and supports for the students who need it most.
Additionally, the minister promised that ministry tests will have their deadlines pushed back and their weight on students’ grades reduced.
