At a city council meeting Tuesday, the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) put forth a plan to start direct bus service between downtown and YEG Edmonton International Airport.
Transit service already exists between downtown and YEG: travelers can board the Capital Line LRT downtown, travel to Century Park on Edmonton’s south side, and take a bus running along route 747 to the airport that runs once an hour.
But according to Daniel Vriend, director of Planning and Scheduling with ETS, the new route would not only benefit the two end destinations but benefit places in between as it “provides an additional travel option into the city from southern districts and areas south of Edmonton.”
There are no firm plans for the bus route yet, but the plan was unanimously supported by Edmonton city councilors Feb. 6.
