Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) has laid out the groundwork for the recruitment process moving forward into 2024, with hopes to continue to make the force more inclusive.
EFRS has had Camp Inspire going for a few years to promote firefighting in the LGBTQ+ community, and they partnered with Enoch Cree Nation last year to host the first Miyowatisiwin Camp to introduce First Nation, Metis, and Inuit communities into the world of firefighting.
The process laid out for this year will see a screening process in February, interviews in April, fitness testing throughout June and July, and an eligibility announcement in August to be part of the recruitment class of 2025.
Fire Chief Joe Zatylny says that everyone one is welcome to apply and become part of the department, no matter their race, religion, sexuality, or gender identity.
The application process ends on Jan. 31, and more information can be found on the EFRS website.
