The big day finally arrived and the excitement on the packed Wellington Beach was contagious. April 8, Eclipse Day, the once in a lifetime event was here and people were celebrating.
The parking lot was filled to capacity requiring the County to close the entrance gates but people poured in anyway by foot to witness the extraordinary celestial event happening in the “path of totality”.
PEC is a major tourist destination — by watching the picnicking, game playing, beach party atmosphere and yes, swimming, one would think it was a summer holiday weekend rather than an early spring day in April.
That is exactly what the municipality had predicted and prepared for. People from Renfrew, Ottawa, GTA, Peterborough and beyond watched the event from all areas of the County, and without any major incidents. All went as expected except for the overcast sky putting a slight damper on the viewing.
