The Alcohol in Parks pilot program has been approved by city council to be a full-fledged city-wide program.
The program originally started in August of 2023 and received an extension until April 2024. A report from the City states that the program has been widely well received by citizens. “Just over 53 per cent of Torontonians wanting the ‘Alcohol in Parks’ program to be continued in some form after the end of the pilot,” it says.
There are currently 27 parks which people in are allowed to drink alcoholic beverages. The goal is to have at least one park per ward with this designation. The program now has 16 potential parks which have been put forward by councillors to be included in the program.
These include Etobicoke Valley Park in Ward 1, Stan Wadlow Park in Ward 19 and Ashtonbee Reservoir Park in Ward 21.
