Haudenosaunee Health Inc. have made a request to Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) to have unspecified council controlled land set aside to build a health facility for diagnostic imaging.
The facility would specialize in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography (CT) Scans for the community.
In May 2023, Bill 60 or “Your Health Act” came into effect which allows privately owned health facilities to obtain licensing required to practice health services.
Colleen Montour of Haudenosaunee Health Inc. says the new facility would help cut wait times for community members who need diagnostic imaging, which currently can be up to a year long.
SNEC has not previously set aside land for privately owned businesses. Coun. Hazel Johnson says council does have the authority to changed procedures if they believe this will be beneficial for the community.
SNEC accepted the presentation as information, the group will work now with Six Nations Lands and Membership and come back to council for consideration to be approved.
