Developer John Lafford was at a Tantramar council meeting on Monday afternoon for a public hearing on a bylaw change that would allow for his latest project with partner Mike Wilson — a seven-story building on York Street at Ford Lane, where a cluster of small heritage buildings currently stand.
The height limit change didn’t receive much opposition at the hearing, but two residents raised concerns about the impact of larger buildings in the downtown, and about the impact of a lengthy demolition and construction project on downtown.
Lafford told CHMA he felt his proposed building would not loom over the downtown, and that the concrete building would be designed to endure, and create “a new sense of heritage” on York Street.
