A non-profit group that has been delivering home-care services in Queens County for more than 40 years has decided to terminate its contract with the Nova Scotia government partly because of a “substantial” deficit.
The Queens Home for Special Care Society, which operates Region of Queens Home Support, gave six months’ notice to the province recently. That means a new provider must take over by January.
Queens Home Support has 174 clients in Queens and Lunenburg counties and about 60 employees.
Board chairman Christopher Clarke told QCCR that the province has assured him that clients won’t see an interruption in services, and that employees will keep their jobs.
A Facebook post on Monday that was widely shared said employees were told on July 4 that Queens Home Support would be closing by January, partly because of a large deficit.
