The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is projecting a surplus of $1.2 million to their 2024/2025 annual budget. But Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Campbell warned that surplus could evaporate if the municipality faces tough winter weather or unexpected infrastructure failures.
Another factor that could impact the surplus, she said, is significant spike in inflation.
Campbell says key elements that contributed to the surplus are revenue from deed transfer taxes, revenue from the landfill due to more construction in the municipality and lower than expected costs due to openings in staffing within the municipality.
The CBRM’s annual budget for 2024/2025 is $178,082,548.
