Although it’s not yet clear who will govern B.C. in the coming weeks and years, what is clear is that the Conservative Party of B.C. is alive and well.
A blue wave swept across most of the province on Oct. 19th, especially in rural and Northern, B.C. The Conservatives had zero seats after the 2020 election and now they’ll have at least 45, two shy of a majority.
Incumbents from both the NDP and those from the former BC United Party lost their seats this election. Nathan Cullen, a former long-time Member of Parliament for Northwest B.C. and a former cabinet minister in the previous provincial NDP Government, lost his seat to Conservative MLA-elect Sharon Hartwell in the riding of Bulkley Valley-Stikine, bringing an end to a 20-year run in provincial and federal politics.
