Prince Edward County’s Mayor Ferguson presented a Civic Recognition Certificate to 25 year old Kim Pothier, of the County, for winning a gold and three silvers in speed skating at the Special Olympics Winter Games held in Calgary this past February.
Not only does Kim skate fast, she swims fast. At the Special Olympics Spring Games held in Waterloo in May, she earned four gold medals for swimming the 100m and 400m free; the 200m back and the 100m IM; as well as silver with her 50m relay team.
Kim has been swimming since she was six years old and it is her first love . She then began speed skating at fifteen years old.
She trains at the Quinte Speed Skating Club in Belleville under the coaching expertise of Laura Woodall. Kim has no limit to her ambitions as her dream is to compete at the World competitions within the next few years.
