Lennox and Addington County council will be directing staff on how to proceed with implementing two community safety zones (CSZ) near three schools on county roads.
At their June 11 meeting, Loyalist Township council agreed on the implementation of CSZs on all township roads in proximity to schools. Two of these areas include schools that are located on county roads, which must be dealt with at the county level.
According to staff’s report, the county’s technical advisory committee (TAC) and traffic engineer have reviewed concerns for the implementation of a CSZ for a number of years. At the May 31, 2022 TAC meeting, all members agreed that CSZs are not currently required on county roads. Although some areas met the requirements to be considered for a CSZ, such as schools and parks adjacent to county roads, they saw no supporting evidence of a public safety concern at these locations.
