Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services (PELASS) brought forth a report to council this week detailing the issues and possible solutions for a rapid increase in homelessness in the area. The report noted opioid-based overdoses in the area as well.
PELASS currently has a list of 87 people who are known to be homeless in area. Out of those, 69 are in Lennox and Addington County and 18 are in Prince Edward County.
In their report, staff noted PELASS receives funding through the Homelessness Prevention Program. PELASS uses this funding to provide life stabilization services to people experiencing a housing crisis, fund community agencies to address homelessness, and to fund rent supplements.
PELASS helps with financial assistance, finding and maintaining housing, and making connections to community resources. They also works with other community organizations to discuss collective actions that can be taken to improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
