The City of Nanaimo is looking at changing its plans to upgrade the Public Works Yard on Labieux Road.
The move comes after two failed attempts at an alternative approval process (AAP) to borrow the money for the upgrades to the 1960s-built facility.
At a Governance and Priorities meeting on Monday, council was split between two options brought to them by city staff on how to continue with this project
Several council members including the mayor were in favour of the option to continue the original plan as it has already been seen as the preferred option by council and staff to the general public.
Other councillors were in favour of a new option that would see a much bigger initial borrowing amount but would upgrade what the city says are the two highest priority items for the Public Works Yard: the Fleet Maintenance Building and the Administration building. This would be done in a single phase.
