Halifax regional council heard from Carolle Koziak Roberts, a landscape architect with HRM Parks and Recreation about the Halifax Common Master Plan, during Tuesday’s council meeting.
Council approved the plan in principle in February 2022 and told staff to review the plan, recommend amendments and do more public consultation.
The plan outlined the renewal of the playground and redesign of the skatepark as well as improvements to pathways and entrances at the north and south common to be the priority over the next three years.
HRM staff are still developing the functional plan for the Wanderers Grounds. Limited space on the Grounds may be an issue due to the functional plan including the proposed expansion of the Halifax Lancers space, a conservatory at the Public Gardens and a permanent stadium for the Halifax Wanderers soccer team.
The plan was approved through a unanimous council vote. City staff will return to council with the updated plan sometime within the next year.
