Halifax council approved amendments to allow a new 30-storey tower proposal to go ahead on Tuesday.
The 30-storey mixed-use tower to be built on Spring Garden Road and Robie Street.
The Regional Centre Secondary Municipal Planning Strategy will also include the restoration of four municipally registered heritage properties on Carlton Street.
Luc Ouellet, principal planner for the city, gave a presentation to council on the proposed amendments to the Planning Strategy. Council also heard from several members of the public about their concerns with the 30-storey building.
Howard Epstein, former city councillor and MLA, said the city needs more housing for families and not bachelor and one-bedroom units. The presentation showed renderings for business units on the ground level which Epstein said should include childcare and a grocery store.
Council voted to approve the proposed development agreement which Dexel Development has 120 days to sign.
