The Cortes Island Community Foundation (CICF) has been awarded $105,000 dollars to distribute as part of the Community Prosperity Fund, a BC government fund intended to support the non-profit sector.
The CICF aims to use the funds for “poverty reduction and social inclusion on Cortes Island,” says Andrea Fisher, operations manager for the foundation.
“We’re hearing from the food bank, the housing society, the women’s center, the health association, and a lot of other organizations that our community members are in need. The support that our emergency response teams are providing is essential to make sure that we’re all living a healthy and vibrant life on Cortes,” said Fisher.
The Community Prosperity Fund was announced by the BC government on Oct. 30, 2023, BC Non-profit Day. The Cortes Foundation announced its applications were open for the grant on May 23.
