Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says after 15 years without a cardiologist in the western region, the new hospital will have one, which will cut down on wait times and long term hospital stays.
Byrne says Dr. Michael O’Reilly he is also from this area and is also one of the best cardiologists in North America.
Meanwhile, the new hospital has a new cancer care unit but no oncologist to work there. Byrne says once the hospital opens this weekend, the process of recruiting a cancer specialist should get easier. The new Western Memorial Regional Hospital is set to open to patients this Sunday, June 2.
