The Corner Brook Kinsmen, soon to be “Kin Club,” held their annual Mayor’s Address at Wayward Spruce on Friday and this year’s focus was housing.
In his address, Mayor Jim Parsons said Corner Brook’s biggest challenge this year will be affordable housing and a simple solution would be to renovate boarded up units on Crestview Avenue.
Back in 2019, there was a site plan to renovate those 32 units into one bedroom apartments, but he says he hasn’t heard anything since. Parsons says staff is working on housing initiatives and expect to announce more soon, adding that social housing is not a municipal responsibility. Parsons says Corner Brook’s housing issue is different than most and housing needs to come with supports.
